Welcome to the future home of President Mikhail Gorbachev's Digital Presidential Library. This site will soon be open to the public via the internet and will serve as the multi-media hub for President Mikhail Gorbachev's archives, current projects, activities, and future efforts.

  • What the Library Will Do

    The President Mikhail Gorbachev Digital Presidential Library will grow to encompass the entire sphere of President Mikhail Gorbachev's work, organized by historical timeline and cross-referenced by subject matter, issue, organization, current schedule, and medium or document type. Access to the site will be free and open to the public, and will be an invaluable resource for historians, educators, journalists, academics, etc...

    Licensing and syndication of this content to institutions and media ventures will also be managed from the hub, and the site will house a private extranet for consultation and advisory work.

  • What the Library Will Offer

    Utilizing the latest in digital tools, President Gorbachev's Library will be digitized and made available on-line and for multiple digital delivery platforms, searchable over a wide range of criteria.

    The Digital Library will be organized using the following principles:

    1. Timeline and Archives
    2. Subject Matter and Issues
    3. Gorbachev Organizations and their work
    4. Commerce (such as a Store)

  • Timeline and Archives

    This area will be organized by an extensive timeline, with content to include:

    1. Print will include interviews, books in and out of print, articles, statements, remarks, speeches, other texts, reports, briefs, policy statements, diaries of Gorbachev associates, Gorbachev Foundation panel discussions and transcripts, Gorbachev Foundation conferences and transcripts.
    2. Audio/Video will include interviews, public appearances, oral histories, oral histories of associates, speeches, Gorbachev Foundation panel discussions, Gorbachev Foundation conferences, news footage.
    3. Interactivity will include a question and answer section, and private conferences with the Gorbachev Foundation.
    4. A link to store for items that are relevant.

  • Subject Matter

    This area will be organized by issues that President Gorbachev played a major role in shaping or is currently working on. For example: Perestroika, The Cold War, Environmental issues, Water Conflict Resolution, Nuclear Weapons Reduction.

  • Gorbachev Organizations and their work

    President Gorbachev founded and steers many forward-thinking organizations. The Library will be a hub for these organizations and link to his current projects. For a summary of these organization, please visist the Present section of this website.

  • Commerce

    1. Gorbachev Public Library Store: This area will feature a fully enabled on-line store. Items for sale will include books, photos and transcripts, among others. President Gorbachev's Lecture Tour schedule, booking information and event sign-up will be available in this section as well.
    2. Gorbachev Private Extranet: This is an area in which President Gorbachev and his team work privately with dignitaries, non-state and other actors in terms of mediation and civil society.
